Let’s Discover Your Best Self

Mental Performance Consulting Services to enhance your or your child’s sport performance, increase overall wellbeing, and build toward a more confident, competent, and self-aware person, not just athlete.

Brett Holtz is a Master of Science in Sport and Performance Psychology from the University of Western States in Portland, Oregon, certified Mental Health First Aider, and former Division I/International Professional Baseball Player. Brett completed his undergraduate degree at Columbia University in New York City where he majored in Psychology. Brett’s worldview and approach to performance is influenced by humanistic, existential, and strengths-based theoretical frameworks. My experience allows me to approach athlete performance from both a personal and professional perspective to improve focus, manage stress, build resilience, and achieve their goals. My consultation is designed to help you thrive in both sports and life through mental skills training and mindfulness.

Brett is already working with clients, but will soon be a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC).  A certification from the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) that objectively validates his competence to teach and coach mental, life, and self-regulatory skills to optimize performance, enjoyment, and/or personal development in sport or other domains. He is currently under the direct supervision of Matt Rieger, CMPC.

Mental performance sessions involve psychological education and mental skills training to improve performance.

Hi There, I’m Brett

What I Do

My Goals for Young Athletes

See me as an immediate advocate and means of support for their short and long-term success, regardless of concerns or needs that are brought to me and agreed upon. Every client relationship is individualized and a “one-size-fits-all” approach is never taken.

Empowerment and ownership. Naturally, athletes will be challenged to think and vocalize issues or needs that they may have not before or done effectively. What makes working with Brett so valuable is he prides himself on reciprocity: not only does this experience with Brett yield results if athletes are as engaged and involved in articulating their own experiences to allow proper and ethical consultation, but allows athletes to think critically, articulate thoughts, feelings, and emotions better, and begin implementing these skills across all contexts: athletics, performance, academics, and social life.

Understanding yourself more and more each session. Like anything else in life, nothing worthwhile comes easily. By working with Brett or similar kinds of support, you or your performer is actively engaging in a journey of self-discovery whether it is related to sport or not and Brett believes that many of the lessons learned from your performance context directly affect and translate into other aspects of life. By understanding yourself more and more after each session, a goal for anyone pursuing Holtz Mental Performance is that by understanding a bit more of yourself each day, you are closer to making sense of the world around you, how you feel you fit in it, and how to best position yourself in an ever-changing world.

Working with Men’s X Mental

Brett is the Chief Operating Office and Head of Mental Performance for  MEN'S X MENTAL, INC. which is a non-profit (501C3) organization striving to break down the barriers & stigmas surrounding the MENtal health of male athletes & ALL of our survivors. Throughout a man's life, we are commonly told to, "MAN UP," or otherwise forced into predetermined notions of men being unable to show pain, weakness, or vulnerability.

These predispositions have ultimately culminated into a habit of suppressing our emotions or being afraid to speak up & seek help. MEN'S X MENTAL, INC. was founded by CEO Teddy Sourlis who is a former collegiate basketball player at Babson College. Together, Brett and Teddy have collaborated and worked with world renowned brands, organizations, and schools like the San Francisco Giants, Under Armour, UNC-Asheville, Johns Hopkins Football, The Zone, Mindflow, local high schools, and more.
